Is laser safe for darker skin types?
Yes! The rapid dpc pro platform used here at Skin Spa is safe for all skin types.
Does laser work on white or blonde hairs?
No. The chromophore being targeted with laser hair removal is pigment. Therefore the hair needs to have a darker pigment in it in order for it to be absorbed by the laser.
What are contraindications to laser hair removal?
Contraindications include:
- freshly tanned skin in the treatment area (including self tanners)
- waxing, plucking, sugaring, threading or use of depilatory creams such as Nair or Veet in the treatment area. The hair must be in it’s follicle in order for the laser to be able to target it
- Hypopigmentation (e.g. Vitiligo)
- Inflammatory skin conditions in area being treated (e.g. eczema, active herpes simplex, rash) as it may aggravate the condition
- Skin cancer, other forms of cancer or anyone taking cancer drug therapy
- Use of accutane in the past year
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Any medications that cause photosensitivity (antibiotics are often a common one)
- Surgical metal pins or plates under the treatment area
- Anyone under 18 years of age
How many treatments do I need?
The average is typically around 8 treatments needed, though each individual is different. A consultation will be given prior to starting treatment to determine your number of sessions needed.
Why does it take multiple sessions for full results?
Each hair goes through 3 different stages of growth, anagen, catagen and telogen. Anagen is the “active” stage in which the hair is actively growing. The hairs can only be destroyed when they are in this active stage, and our bodies have on average 10% of hair in its active or anagen stage at a time, while the rest of the hair follicles are going through their catagen and
